For the first time this season, American Heritage will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Thursday. They will take on the Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars at 4:00 p.m. American Heritage has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
American Heritage lost 21-7 to Spanish River on Monday. The Stallions have struggled against the Sharks recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meetings.
Julianne Thompson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Katheryn Costello, who scored a run and stole a base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Somerset Academy - Canyons). They blew past Highlands Christian 16-0 on Tuesday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Ryleigh Singer made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Ava Midgett was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Izzy Hall was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Somerset Academy - Canyons always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .786. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highlands Christian only posted an OBP of .100.
Somerset Academy - Canyons' record now sits at 2-4. As for American Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. American Heritage has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .550. However, it's not like Somerset Academy - Canyons struggles in that department as they've averaged .475. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
American Heritage beat Somerset Academy - Canyons 4-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will American Heritage repeat their success, or does Somerset Academy - Canyons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
