The Bishop Montgomery Knights will be taking part in a tournament against the Mary Star of the Sea Stars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bishop Montgomery's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Mary Star of the Sea's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Bishop Montgomery's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past Palos Verdes 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Not much got past Michael Flink, who gave up just a hit to keep Palos Verdes off the board.
At the plate, Bishop Montgomery's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Harrison Howe, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. The dominant performance gave Howe a new career-high in stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Mary Star of the Sea got the win against Verbum Dei Jesuit on Friday by a conclusive 14-5. The Stars haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Ben Dileva was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Dileva was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Mathias Reynolds was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Vuoso, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Bishop Montgomery now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Mary Star of the Sea, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Bishop Montgomery came out on top in a nail-biter against Mary Star of the Sea when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Does Bishop Montgomery have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mary Star of the Sea turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
