Baseball Preview: New Holstein Huskies vs. Brillion Lions
The New Holstein Huskies will venture away from home to challenge the Brillion Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Holstein hasn't scored more than two runs for four games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
New Holstein's last matchup with Cedar Grove-Belgium could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Friday. The Huskies lost 9-2 to the Rockets.
New Holstein saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Ziebell, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Brillion never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Valders on Monday. They blew past the Vikings 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Chase Braun was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs. Brillion is undefeated when Braun posts two or more runs, but 6-9 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aiden Reinke, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Blake Kettner was another key player, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Brillion always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
New Holstein now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Brillion, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
