Softball Recap: Sweetwater Triumphs

Sweetwater hadn't done well against Meigs County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Wildcats walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Tigers. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Sadie Scott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sweetwater let Victoria Thompson and Lillian Woodruff run wild. Thompson went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Woodruff got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Woodruff is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Baylee Bohrer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Sweetwater's victory bumped their record up to 20-3. As for Meigs County, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 10-11 record.

Sweetwater wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 3-2 loss against Roane County on the 6th. As for Meigs County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-5 defeat against Tellico Plains on the 6th.
