Basketball Recap: Purnell Swett Takes a Loss

After flying high against Douglas Byrd last Tuesday, Purnell Swett came back down to earth. The Purnell Swett Rams were dealt a 76-36 defeat at the hands of the Seventy-First Falcons on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 77-45 last Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Purnell Swett lost, don't look at Collin Sampson. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points.

Purnell Swett has also been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 16 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Seventy-First, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

Looking ahead, Purnell Swett and Lumberton will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. Lumberton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Purnell Swett likes a good challenge. As for Seventy-First, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Falcons face off against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Seventy-First is facing Douglas Byrd at the right time seeing as Douglas Byrd is stuck on a 17-game losing streak.
