Baseball Game Preview: Brito Panthers vs. St. Johns Country Day Spartans

The Brito Panthers will head out to challenge the St. Johns Country Day Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Brito sitting on eight straight victories and St. Johns Country Day on nine.

Brito is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-12 win over Miami Christian.

Cristopher Guzman was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Brito's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 12-13 when he doesn't). Danny Estrada also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Brito kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but St. Johns Country Day ultimately got the result they hoped for last Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against University Christian, sneaking past 8-7.

The team relied heavily on Jonas Wells, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Brayden Harris was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

St. Johns Country Day pushed their record up to 25-8 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Brito, they now have a winning record of 15-14.
