Baseball Recap: Warren Takes a Loss

Warren fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Hamburg on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 8-7. The Lumberjacks have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Kolby Pope was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Pope wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tucker McDiarmid, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

Warren's loss dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Hamburg, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-10.

Coming up, Warren will venture away from home to challenge DeWitt at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hamburg, they will welcome Crossett at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
