Basketball Recap: Mattoon Takes a Loss

Mattoon was the 54-49 winner over Mt. Zion when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Mattoon Greenwave took a 51-33 bruising from the Mt. Zion Braves on Friday. The Greenwave just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row.

Mattoon's defeat dropped their record down to 6-22. As for Mt. Zion, their victory bumped their record up to 11-18.

Mattoon and Mt. Zion could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Mattoon (ranked 401st) will meet Paris (ranked 75th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Mt. Zion will take on Taylorville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 187 places (290 vs. 103).
