Baseball Recap: Sylvania Sets Scoring Season-High Against Sand Rock

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sylvania). They put the hurt on the Sand Rock Wildcats with a sharp 10-4 victory on Friday. The Rams not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12, 2024.

Eli Mattox made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Brayden Fricks and Kelby Graham did most of the damage at the plate: Fricks scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Graham scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Graham also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. JR Dixon was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Sylvania always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Sylvania moved to 2-15 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Sand Rock, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.

Sylvania wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 17-6 defeat against North Sand Mountain on the 29th. As for Sand Rock, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 6-5 loss against Section on the 31st.
