Baseball Recap: Cannelton Comes Up Short

Cannelton had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-9 to make it seven. They came up short against the Northeast Dubois Jeeps, falling 24-3. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Jeeps from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.

As for Northeast Dubois, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Northeast Dubois' part, Noah Fawks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Fawks has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carter Fuhs, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs, two triples, and three RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brycen Mroz, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Cannelton and Northeast Dubois are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Bulldogs will take on Wood Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Northeast Dubois, they will challenge Springs Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
