Basketball Recap: Mater Dei Snags 11th Win in Last 14 Games

Mater Dei won the last time they faced Nokomis and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Mater Dei Knights enjoyed a cozy 64-46 victory over the Nokomis Redskins. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while the Redskins are ranked 438th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mater Dei was led to victory by Gavin Peppenhorst and Elliott Rakers. Peppenhorst went 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points in addition to five assists and five boards, while Rakers went 7 for 9 en route to 17 points and three blocks. The match was Peppenhorst's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jared Hemker, who posted 12 points and five rebounds.

Mater Dei has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Nokomis, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-10.

When Mater Dei and Nokomis next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Mater Dei will try to stop St. Anthony's 13-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mater Dei is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season. Similarly, Nokomis will take on Edinburg and their five-game winning streak at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
