Recap: Wharton Wildcats vs. Strawberry Crest Chargers
The Wharton Wildcats stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Strawberry Crest 66-15 on the road. Given Wharton's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Strawberry Crest is ranked 421st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wharton found their leader in underclassman Sydney Hurst, who scored 13 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hurst has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Maggio, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Strawberry Crest lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jenna Tia. Despite the final result, she scored seven points.
Wharton's win bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Strawberry Crest, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wharton and Robinson will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Strawberry Crest, they will head out on the road to face off against Sickles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
