Preview: Sycamore Spartans vs. Morris Redskins
The Sycamore Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Morris Redskins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep alive their perfect eight-game seasons.
Last Friday, Sycamore got themselves on the board against LaSalle-Peru, but LaSalle-Peru never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 49-0 win over the Cavaliers at home. The result was nothing new for Sycamore, who have now won six matches by 22 points or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Morris on the road against Ottawa on Friday as the team secured a 54-17 win. The result was nothing new for Morris, who have now won seven contests by 28 points or more so far this season.
Morris' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Swartz, who rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Swartz is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Carter Button, who threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
The wins kept both teams' perfect 8-0 season records intact.
Everything came up roses for Sycamore against Morris in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 28-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sycamore since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
