Softball Game Preview: Carondelet Cougars vs. Willow Glen Rams

The Carondelet Cougars will be taking part in a tournament against the Willow Glen Rams at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Carondelet managed to slip by San Ramon Valley the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Cougars came up short against the Wolves last Thursday, falling 14-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cougars have suffered against the Wolves since May 5, 2023.

Angela Gates was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Brooke Hamilton also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Willow Glen, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Branham by a score of 4-1 on Wednesday. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Bruins recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Kayla Valtscheff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Willow Glen's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Alanna Clincy, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Those two doubles gave Clincy a new career-high. Maia Mendoza was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Willow Glen's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Carondelet, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-2 record.
