Baseball Recap: Jordan Has No Trouble Against Centennial

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jordan). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Centennial Apaches a 20-0 shutout on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Talin Velazquez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Velazquez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Jordan got a massive performance out of Adrian Mendez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1. Mendez also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Cris Aleman was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Jordan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .537 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Jordan's victory bumped their record up to 5-1-1. As for Centennial, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Jordan Panthers take on New Roads Jaguars at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. New Roads is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Centennial, they will square off against Santa Monica at 3:15 p.m. on March 11th.
