Football Game Preview: Modoc Braves vs. Redding Christian Lions

The Modoc Braves will head out on the road to challenge the Redding Christian Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Modoc took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 40-28 win over Fall River. The Braves' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Redding Christian put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 55-0 victory over Mt. Shasta. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Modoc better keep an eye on Wyatt Shaw. He was instrumental in Redding Christian's win, throwing for 376 yards and eight TDs while completing 85% of his passes. Those eight passing touchdowns gave Shaw a new career-high. Darren Goodman was Shaw's top target, picking up 151 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Redding Christian's run defense was locked in: Mt. Shasta could only muster 2.6 yards per carry. While two picked up at least six total tackles, Goodman stood above the rest. He picked up 151 receiving yards and three scores. Redding Christian didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged eight.

Redding Christian's defense didn't let Nick Mangrum, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Mt. Shasta's QB won't forget Goodman anytime soon given he sacked him twice.

Modoc's record now sits at 2-3. As for Redding Christian, their record is now 4-0.

Modoc took their win against Redding Christian in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 49-28 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Braves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
