Football Recap: Saguaro Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Higley + How To Watch

Saguaro faced Higley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Sabercats took a 24-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. That's two games in a row now that the Sabercats have lost by exactly seven points.

Higley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gunner Fagrell out in front who rushed for 79 yards on only six carries, and also threw for 127 yards and one TD while completing 73.7% of his passes. What's more, Fagrell racked up 108.9 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Rylan Irwin was another key back, rushing for 95 yards and one touchdown.

Saguaro has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 28.5 points over those games. As for Higley, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Saguaro has already played their next contest, a 40-37 loss against O'Connor on the 10th. As for Higley, after each having a week off, they and Brophy College Prep will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
