The Freedom Area Bulldogs will head out to face off against the Burgettstown Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Freedom Area comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Freedom Area came up short against Riverside on Monday, falling 18-3.
Freedom Area saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haydan Baucan, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Burgettstown). Everything went their way against Cornell on Wednesday as Burgettstown made off with a 19-3 victory. With that win, the Blue Devils brought their scoring average up to 8.6 runs per game.
Brooklyn Robinson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring four runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Sherman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Madison Guiddy was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Burgettstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cornell only managed five hits.
Freedom Area's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Burgettstown, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Freedom Area has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .478. However, it's not like Burgettstown struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Freedom Area might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Burgettstown in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Freedom Area avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
