Baseball Recap: Washburn Takes a Loss

Washburn extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-4 in the process. They fell 12-8 to the Southern Aroostook Warriors. While the Beavers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Warriors 7-1 in the first period.

Riley Thomas made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those runs were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Blake King, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for Southern Aroostook, they now have a winning record of 3-2. The victory continues a trend for them in their matchups with Washburn: they've now won three in a row.

On Southern Aroostook's side, they got a massive performance out of Trafton Russell, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Russell has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dillan Bishop, who went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases and two runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washburn will welcome Shead at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Beavers are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Southern Aroostook, they will be playing at home against Fort Kent at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
