Baseball Recap: Quapaw Comes Up Short

Quapaw might've scored the first runs on Tuesday, but it was Galena who claimed the real prize. The Wildcats fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 16-14.

Ayden Bruton was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Quapaw's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 2-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jace Gregory made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Quapaw: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-9 otherwise. Cooper Welch was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-5.

Quapaw's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Galena, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Quapaw will head out to face off against Nowata at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Galena, they will venture away from home to square off against Neosho at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
