Fenwick is 9-1 against DePaul College Prep since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Friars will be playing at home against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Fenwick is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Fenwick didn't have quite enough to beat Riverside-Brookfield and fell 5-4.
Fenwick got a good showing from Spike Gall, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gall has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Fenwick saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Gonzalez, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, DePaul College Prep came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Mustangs.
DePaul College Prep also got a great performance from Gavin Variano as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave Variano a new career-high.
At the plate, Jack Reid was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Beni Espinosa, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.
DePaul College Prep's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-2. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.75 runs across that stretch. As for Fenwick, they now have a losing record of 7-8-1.
Fenwick skirted past DePaul College Prep 5-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Will the Friars repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
