Basketball Recap: Lamar Consolidated Comes Up Short

Lamar Consolidated was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 61-47 to the Victoria West Warriors. The Mustangs were probably out for revenge after losing 63-46 to them when the teams met back in February of 2018, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Lamar Consolidated still got an impressive performance from Kaylani Nichols, who posted 13 points along with eight boards and five steals. That's the most steals Nichols has posted since back in November of 2024. Praisegod Chinweuba was another key player, putting up six points.

Even though they lost, Lamar Consolidated smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Lamar Consolidated's defeat dropped their record down to 3-20. As for Victoria West, their win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-8.

Lamar Consolidated didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 32-23 loss against Terry on the 14th. Victoria West has also already played their next matchup, a 71-18 victory against Fort Bend Kempner on the 14th.
