St. Joseph took a three-goal loss the last time they faced off against Mattawan, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bears beat the Wildcats by a goal, winning 3-2. Given St. Joseph's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan soccer rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Mattawan are ranked 90th) , the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Joseph's victory bumped their record up to 8-1-2. As for Mattawan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. St. Joseph will face off against rival Portage Northern at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Mattawan is set to square off against their familiar foe Kalamazoo Central at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
