Softball Game Preview: Commack Cougars vs. Northport Tigers

Commack has won eight straight games at home, while Northport has won eight straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Cougars will welcome the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Commack's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Huntington with a sharp 15-0 win. The Cougars have beaten the Blue Devils the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Blue Devils has come to flipping the script.

Madison Johnston was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Sophia Emanuel was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

Meanwhile, Northport made easy work of Newfield on Tuesday and carried off a 20-6 victory.

Northport got a massive performance out of Jamie Anderso, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jillian Ryan, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

Northport hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matchups.

Northport has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Commack, their victory bumped their record up to 16-0.

Everything went Commack's way against Northport when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Commack made off with a 10-2 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
