El Monte extended their losing streak to 15 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-15. They lost 22-7 to the Marshall Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-1 back in March.
Javier Rodriguez made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Geovanni Flores, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
As for Marshall, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-12. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
On Marshall's side, Chris Romero made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Romero has become a key player for Marshall: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 5-11 otherwise. Romero was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Elijah Lain was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Marshall is 4-2 when Lain posts one or more home runs, but 3-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Macready, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.
El Monte wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 13-3 loss against Rosemead on the 24th. As for Marshall, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-5 victory against Mountain View on the 24th.
