Penobscot Valley extended their winning streak to five on Monday, bumping their season record up to 5-0 in the process. They put the hurt on the Penquis Valley Patriots with a sharp 16-0 victory. Fans of the Howlers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Lauren Veino was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Farley, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Ellie Austin was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI.

Penobscot Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in eight consecutive matches dating back to last season.

As for Penquis Valley, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Penquis Valley's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Cook, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Penobscot Valley beat the Patriots by a score of 5-2 on Friday.
