Softball Recap: Hazard Gets the Win

After losing to Clay County the last time they met, Hazard decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Hazard walked away with a 10-7 win over Clay County on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs.

Peyton Fields made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with six RBI and one double. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Halle Jones, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Combs, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Hazard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Hazard's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Clay County, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Looking ahead, Hazard will take on Metamora at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. As for Clay County, they will face off against Middlesboro at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Clay County is facing Middlesboro at the right time seeing as Middlesboro is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
