Recap: Munroe Bobcats vs. St. John Paul II Panthers

The Munroe Bobcats's three-game losing streak came to an end on Wednesday. They came out on top against St. John Paul II by a score of 58-49. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Munroe also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.

Munroe had a senior duo take command as JJ Clayton scored nine points along with 20 rebounds and Karlton Knight scored 13 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zelden Chukes, who scored two points along with seven rebounds.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Julian Thompson, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Thompson pulled down eight or more rebounds. Mario Forbes was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Munroe's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-5-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points per game. As for St. John Paul II, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Munroe will head out on the road to face off against L.E.A.D. Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. L.E.A.D. Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 772nd, while Munroe is ranked 224th). St. John Paul II won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. Lincoln will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
