Football Game Preview: JC Bermudez Doral Thunder vs. Varela Vipers

The JC Bermudez Doral Thunder will head out to face off against the Varela Vipers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. JC Bermudez Doral has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with eight straight losses, while Varela will come in with six straight victories.

On Friday, JC Bermudez Doral was just a hair shy of victory and fell 7-6 to Downtown Doral.

Meanwhile, Varela's rock-solid defense showed up for the team's sixth consecutive shutout on Thursday. They blew past Southwest 25-0. Given the Vipers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Eagles are ranked 377th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Varela found their leader in freshman Angelyn Molina, who threw for 220 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt. Molina's passing game has become a key predictor of the Vipers' success: the team is undefeated when her passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise.

One reason for the win was Varela's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Elisa Thompson.

Varela pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 0.0 points on average over those games. As for JC Bermudez Doral, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
