Baseball Recap: Purcell Comes Up Short

Purcell fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Latta on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 4-3. The Dragons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in April of 2015.

Casey Billingsley was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Purcell's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't).

Purcell's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Latta, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Purcell has already played their next game, a 10-3 victory against Lexington on the 29th. As for Latta, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-4 win against Dibble on the 29th.
