Basketball Game Preview: Brookeland Wildcats vs. Spurger Pirates

Brookeland is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Spurger is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Brookeland Wildcats will host the Spurger Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

It was a proper cat-fight when Brookeland took on Hull-Daisetta on Friday. Brookeland simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hull-Daisetta 81-33. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 498th, while the Bobcats are ranked 1078th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Spurger hadn't done well against Leggett recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Spurger took their match with ease, bagging an 89-30 win over Leggett. With Spurger ahead 47-16 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Brookeland is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 58.4 points. As for Spurger, their victory bumped their record up to 16-7.

Everything came up roses for Brookeland against Spurger in their previous matchup back in January, as the squad secured a 99-41 win. In that matchup, Brookeland amassed a halftime lead of 53-19, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
