Skyridge hasn't had much luck against Lehi recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Falcons will head out to challenge the Pioneers at 3:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Skyridge sitting on three straight victories and Lehi on four.
Skyridge had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt American Fork on Tuesday. The Falcons put the hurt on the Cavemen with a sharp 12-6 win.
Mia Hess was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Kaylie Power also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Skyridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as American Fork only posted an OBP of .323.
Meanwhile, Lehi faced Pleasant Grove in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Pioneers were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Vikings. The Pioneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Abbi Harroun spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Piper Emery and Sophie Bliss did most of the damage at the plate: Emery went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Bliss went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Bliss has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadlie Hansen, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Skyridge's record is now 11-13. As for Lehi, their record now sits at 16-8.
Skyridge suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Lehi in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
