Baseball Game Preview: Grayson County Cougars vs. Muhlenberg County Mustangs

Grayson County is 1-6 against Muhlenberg County since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cougars will host the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Grayson County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Butler County on Wednesday as they made off with a 20-10 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won seven in a row.

Jake Bratcher was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Gage Napier was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in May of 2024. Cameron Fulkerson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Grayson County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Muhlenberg County not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 14th (when they won 13-0). They put the hurt on McLean County with a sharp 11-3 win. Muhlenberg County's victory was all the more impressive since the Cougars were averaging only 3.68 runs allowed on the season.

Muhlenberg County pushed their record up to 14-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Grayson County, their win bumped their record up to 13-11.
