Softball Game Preview: Massabesic Mustangs vs. Cheverus Stags

The Massabesic Mustangs will take on the Cheverus Stags at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Massabesic took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over Biddeford. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, Cheverus had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Stags have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

The win got Massabesic back to even at 4-4. As for Cheverus, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.

Massabesic might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Cheverus in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
