Preview: Escondido Charter White Tigers vs. Maranatha Christian Eagles
The Escondido Charter White Tigers will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Maranatha Christian Eagles at 6:00 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Escondido Charter and four for Maranatha Christian.
Escondido Charter pushed their score all the way to 68 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 86-68 to Francis Parker. While losing is never fun, Escondido Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 795th, while Francis Parker is ranked 320th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Ashton Pincock, who scored eight points along with three steals. Joe Scates was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Maranatha Christian suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Monday. They were outmatched by Francis Parker on the road and fell 76-42.
Escondido Charter has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Maranatha Christian, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 9-12.
Things could have been worse for Escondido Charter, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-42 loss to Maranatha Christian when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Maranatha Christian's Zeke Walker, who scored 32 points along with eight rebounds. Now that Escondido Charter knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
