Baseball Game Preview: Scott County Cardinals vs. Sayre Spartans

For the second straight game, Scott County will face off against Sayre. The Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Scott County 3.9, Sayre 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Scott County is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Sayre, who was ranked third at the time (Scott County was ranked ninth). The Cardinals never let the Spartans get on the board and left with an 8-0 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Jack Willhite's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Garrett Sparks and Sebastian Arden did most of the damage at the plate: Sparks went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base, while Arden scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Will Rose, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Scott County is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sayre, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-3.
