Baseball Recap: Ontario Triumphs

It was a proper cat-fight when Ontario challenged Chaffey on Monday. The Jaguars had just enough and edged out the Tigers 3-1. This was payback for the Jaguars, who suffered a 6-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Ontario's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Modesto Verdin, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Those two hits gave Verdin a new career-high.

Ontario was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chaffey only posted a batting average of .095.

The win made it two in a row for Ontario and bumps their season record up to 9-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Chaffey, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Ontario will have a chance to go back-to-back against Chaffey: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
