Softball Preview: Milpitas Trojans vs. Capuchino Mustangs

The Milpitas Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Capuchino Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Milpitas took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over Wilcox. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Trojans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Marissa Gil spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits.

On the hitting side, Milpitas got a massive performance out of Chloe Cabrera, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave Cabrera a new career-high. Dahana Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Capuchino entered their tilt with Aragon on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Dons.

Lola Sierra made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI.
