Basketball Recap: Wheelersburg Extends Road Winning Streak to Six

Wheelersburg lost to South Webster back in January of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Wheelersburg Pirates enjoyed a cozy 60-42 victory over the South Webster Jeeps. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Jeeps are ranked 704th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, South Webster still got an impressive performance from Addi Claxon, who almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine steals. Those 27 points gave Claxon a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cailee Blevins, who went 5 of 9 en route to 11 points and three steals.

Wheelersburg pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for South Webster, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Wheelersburg beat South Webster by a score of 52-28 on Thursday.
