Baseball Game Preview: Fordyce Redbugs vs. Gurdon Go-Devils

Fordyce is a perfect 5-0 against Gurdon since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Redbugs will look to defend their home field against the Go-Devils at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Fordyce's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Gurdon has been banged up by 11 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

On Tuesday, Fordyce came up short against Poyen and fell 12-9.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gurdon). They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Kirby on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Go-Devils, who have now won three contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Aiden Hughes was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other batting news, Nate Newton was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Bradyn King, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Gurdon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Fordyce's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Gurdon, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Fordyce beat Gurdon 15-11 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Redbugs repeat their success, or do the Go-Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
