Porter Ridge (Indian Trail, N.C.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 16 points, drop to 10 before the final whistle blew on a 16-6 victory over
A.C. Reynolds (Asheville, N.C.).
After taking the lead on a field goal by
Matt Wogan in the first quarter, the Pirates led 13-0 at the half.
Porter Ridge expanded its lead to 16 points entering the fourth quarter. PR scored once in the quarter on a field goal by Wogan.
The loss snapped the Rockets' 5-game winning streak.
Khiry Lytle played well for A.C. Reynolds. The junior ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to five on the year.
The Indian Trail school's standout player in the win was Wogan. The senior kicked three field goals and one extra point. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
ACR's lone touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Lytle in the fourth quarter.
The Pirates came into the game allowing 6.2 points per game. The six points that the Asheville school ended with were well below its average of 37.7 coming into the game.
The loss comes after A.C. Reynolds defeated Alexander Central 63-35 last week. With the win Porter Ridge extended its winning streak to four games.
