Baseball Game Preview: Matawan Regional Huskies vs. Holmdel Hornets

The Matawan Regional Huskies will venture away from home to square off against the Holmdel Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Matawan Regional is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Last Wednesday, Matawan Regional came up short against Colts Neck and fell 9-5.

Meanwhile, Holmdel owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They came out on top against St. John-Vianney by a score of 3-0. That looming 3-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hornets yet this season.

The result came thanks to Dylan Zammit's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Holmdel's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nick Rakoski, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Jack Vallillo also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Matawan Regional's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Holmdel, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Matawan Regional took their victory against Holmdel in their previous matchup back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
