Basketball Recap: Danielys Pena Ponce's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Four Corners over Mulberry

If Four Corners was feeling good fresh off their 51-26 takedown of Discovery last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Four Corners Coyotes fell 56-44 to the Mulberry Panthers on Thursday. The Coyotes have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Four Corners' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Danielys Pena Ponce, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Briana Carrion, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds.

It was another big night for Lorianys Castanon Cruz, who posted 29 points for Mulberry. Castanon Cruz's evening made it 25 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Miley Armstrong, who scored 12 points.

Four Corners now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Mulberry, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Four Corners will face off against Fort Meade at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mulberry has already played their next match, a 49-14 victory against Excel Christian Academy on the 27th.
