Baseball Game Preview: Lincoln Lancers vs. University Bulldogs

The Lincoln Lancers will head out to face off against the University Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Lincoln is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Lincoln made easy work of Manual and carried off a 9-3 victory. The Lancers haven't had any issues with the Thunderbolts recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Gio Castro was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Castro was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Trujillo, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Lincoln's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 13-2 (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Carlos Gonzales was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, University had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Mavericks.

University's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Will Korby, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

University's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, their record now sits at 15-8.
