Southwest is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will look to defend their home field against the Wallace Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Wallace will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Southwest extended their winning streak to three last Thursday. The Roughriders breezed past South Platte to the tune of 59-8. With the Roughriders ahead 36-8 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Houston Billeter went supernova, rushing for 101 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, while also throwing for 172 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes. Those 101 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.
Southwest's run defense was locked in: South Platte could only muster 1.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Gage Hammond for the heroic effort on defense: he. Southwest hasn't allowed more than 2.2 yards per carry every time they've taken the field this season.
Southwest's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Hammond with two.
Meanwhile, Wallace took their matchup two weeks ago with ease, bagging a 66-32 victory over South Platte. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Wildcats had established a 27-point advantage.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Tyson Sullivan and Ashtin Johns. Sullivan rushed for 229 yards and five scores on only nine carries while Johns rushed for 250 yards and four TDs while picking up 14.7 yards per carry. Sullivan's longest rush was for an impressive 64 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
Southwest's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Wallace, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 3-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Southwest has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 157 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Wallace struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 378.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
