Basketball Recap: Wawasee Takes a Loss

Wawasee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 63-53 to the Whitko Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 47-43 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Wawasee lost, don't look at Ava Couture. Despite the final result, she went 8 of 17 on her way to 22 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Couture a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Molly Beer, who posted 11 points and four steals.

Whitko got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayma Stonebraker out in front who went 5 for 8 en route to 18 points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Stonebraker, who went 8 of 17 on her way to 18 points along with five assists and five boards.

Wawasee's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Whitko, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Wawasee does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Whitko, they will face off against Woodlan at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Whitko sitting on three straight wins and Woodlan on four.
