Softball Recap: Hammond Bishop Noll Takes a Loss

Hammond Bishop Noll extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 6-6 in the process. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Griffith Panthers. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Madelynn (Maddie) Queen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Hammond Bishop Noll saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anais (Niecy) Reyna, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

As for Griffith, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Griffith's side, Brylie Bridges was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Bridges has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 13 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Nevaeh Vargas was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Cheyanne Fant was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

While Hammond Bishop Noll had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
