John Paul the Great Academy took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 46-26 margin over the Acadiana Christian Lions. The Guardians are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 12 straight dating back to last season.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Riley Lormand and Jonah Petitt. Lormand rushed for 203 yards and three TDs on only 14 carries while Petitt rushed for 180 yards and three scores on only 11 carries.

John Paul the Great Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 419 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 211 rushing yards in 12 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

John Paul the Great Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Nicholas Odinet.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. John Paul the Great Academy will venture away from home to take on Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Acadiana Christian, they will head out to square off against First Baptist Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
