Softball Recap: Ashe County Gets the Win

Ashe County took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Hibriten, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskies had just enough and edged out the Panthers 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Huskies: when they faced off against the Panthers back in March, they had to take a 7-1 defeat.

Maleah Lovell made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

Lovell wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Osborne, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Rylee Williams also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Ashe County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Ashe County and bumps their season record up to 8-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Hibriten, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-6 record this season.

Ashe County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-1 loss against Starmount on the 9th. As for Hibriten, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 17-3 victory against Watauga on the 11th.
