Recap: Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way vs. West Phoenix Eagles

Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 20 points or more this season. They breezed by West Phoenix at home to the tune of 64-33. Given Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while West Phoenix is ranked 203rd), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way to victory, but perhaps none more so than Branden Trujillo, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds. The matchup was Trujillo's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Camren Houser, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.

Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for West Phoenix, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Glenview College Prep the next time they take the court. West Phoenix will head out to face Glenview College Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2024.
